I WANT to talk about 2k12 splinter.

I’ve seen a lot of talk lately about how splinter is poo-pooing on honor in 2k12, and how it is bad, but I want to talk about the other ways this splinter is different to maybe give it some context.

IN MOST versions where we hear about the feud between Oroku Saki and Hamato Yoshi, the blame goes entirely on Oroku Saki. Oroku Saki either betrayed him or there was no warning.

IN 2k12, that is not how THIS Yoshi views it - he sees how he could’ve stopped it. He sees how he, himself, did not focus on what mattered. Instead he was concerned about pride. His honor. He was prideful, and he lost his family because of it.

IN MOST versions, Splinter is training the boys in order to fight and avenge his honor/such-n-such from Shredder.

IN 2k12 we see that that is the LAST thing Splinter wants. He does not want his sons to fight Shredder. He does not want his honor avenged.

2k12 Splinter already lost one family because of his honor, he’s not going to make the same mistake.
